October 8, 2017 - Peter Coffeen received a 2nd Place Silver Medal in the photography division of at the Connecticut Senior Juried Art Show at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury, CT. The exhibit, “The Art of Experience”, is a show that highlights the work of Connecticut Artists over 70. His photograph will be on exhibit at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury. The opening is Oct. 8, 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. The exhibition at Pomperaug Woods is September 23 and 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

October 7, 2017 - Tom Hlas exhibits five new, large-sized paintings at a group show, “Everything Blue,” at The Studio Gallery in New Hope, PA. The opening reception is October 7th from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

October 7, 2017 - Harvey Kimmelman exhibits his work at the Sandisfield Arts Center in a show titled, “A Journey into Light: Watercolor Paintings & Drawings by Harvey Kimmelman.” The show runs from October 7-28. The Opening Reception is October 7 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

August 4, 2017 - Norfolk Artists & Friends 9th Annual Exhibition at the Battell Stoeckel Gallery, Norfolk, Connecticut 06058. Sponsored by the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. The show runs throughout the weekend: August, 4-6, 2017.

June 10, 2017 - Anita Holmes, Ron Sloan, Ruthann Olsson, Susan Rood and Tom Hlas are opening their studios to the public on Saturday, June 10, as part of the Connecticut Open House Day 2016 sponsored by the State of Connecticut. 

May 11, 2017:  “Norfolk Through a Lens” Wins Prestigious Independent Publisher Silver Book Award. “Norfolk Through a Lens: Visions of a Quintessential New England Town”, a collaboration of Norfolk photographers, is a 172-page coffee table book focused on Norfolk and features the work of 10 local photographers.

June 3, 2017:  Laura Lasker exhibits her paintings at Miranda Vineyard, Ives Road, Goshen, CT, June 3 - 30. Opening reception and wine tasting Saturday, June 10 from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. 

March 11, 2017:  Jon Riedeman and Katherine Griswold exhibit their art at The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. Opening Reception: March 11 from 4 - 6:00 p.m. The show closes April 24th. The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. 10 Upper Main St., Sharon, CT 06069.

March 3, 2017:  Karen Linden and Harvey Kimmelman exhibit their work along with five other artists in an exhibition by 7 artists who painted together in Northern Italy. The show is called, “Made in Italy.” The exhibition is at the Bushnell-Sage Libarary in Sheffield, MA. Opening Reception is Friday, March 3 from 6 - 8:00 p.m. The show runs through March 31.

February 27, 2017: Laura Lasker recently illustrated a Children's Book titled "Puppy Trouble" by a local author.

January 22, 2017:  “Dinner with 7 Artists” - A celebratory dinner at Infinity Bistro, Norfolk, CT, that features works exhibited by Ann Getsinger, Tom Hlas, Fay O'Meara, Susan Rood, Rosemary Gill, Madeline Falk and Jon Riedeman. The artists will speak briefly about their work and engage in conversations throughout and after the meal. (5:30 p.m.) Open to the public.

January 7, 2017: A solo show by Tom Hlas opens at Loft Gallery in New Preston, CT. The opening reception is Saturday, January 14 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. The show runs through February 19, 2017.

December 10, 2016: Tom Hlas will exhibit a selection of his small paintings at the “Local Makers Market” held at Loft Gallery in New Preston on December 10 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. The Market is part of New Preston’s 7th Annual Winter Walk.

December 4, 2016: Fay O’Meara, Jon Riedeman, Madeline Falk, Susan Rood and Tom Hlas are among seven artists who are exhibiting their art at the Infinity Gallery in Norfolk, CT. The opening reception is December 4 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. The show runs through February, 2017.

November 6, 2016: Christian Césari exhibits his paintings at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT. The show, “My Big Blue Sun: Mon Grand Soleil Bleu” opens with an artist reception on November 6 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. The show runs through December 4, 2016.

November 5, 2016: Harvey Kimmelman exhibits his paintings at the David M. Hunt Library in Falls Village, CT. His show, “All Over the Map,” opens November 5 with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The exhibit runs through Saturday, December 3, 2016

October 17, 2016: Susan Rood exhibits her monotypes and collage works at the Artisans Guild, 9 Station Place in Norfolk, CT. The show, “Seasonal Reflections,” runs through November, 2016.

October 13, 2016:  Debra Lill has recently been awarded a Regional Initiative Grant from The CT Office of the Arts in partnership with the Northwest Arts Council. This grant supports a new artistic direction that Debra is particularly excited about - “Living Photos”. Debra has partnered with Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington and will be installing a number of pieces in waiting rooms, therapy rooms and outpatient facilities. 

October 2, 2016:  Norfolk photographers open their show, "Norfolk Through a Lens: Visions of a Quintessential New England Town,” at the Norfolk Library, 9 Greenwoods Road East, Norfolk, CT 06058. The opening reception is Sunday, October 2 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. The exhibit runs to November 2. The exhibit is in tandem with the publishing of the book, "Norfolk Through a Lens: Visions of a Quintessential New England Town,” a book of photographs which includes a number of NAF photographers among the photographers presented.

August 5 - 7, 2016:  Twenty-three NAF artists will exhibit their work at the 8th Annual Exhibition sponsored by the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Yale School of Music held at the Battell Stoeckel Gallery in Norfolk, CT.

June 11, 2016: Six artists will open their studios to the public on Saturday, June 11, as part of the Connecticut Open House Day 2016 sponsored by the State of Connecticut. These artists include: Nina Ritson, Ron Sloan, Ruthann Olsson, Susan Rood, Turi Rostad and Tom Hlas. Open studio hours: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

June 1, 2016: Ruthann Olsson and her Interior Arts & Design studio are featured in the current issue of “Berkshire Style” online magazine. 

April 15, 2016: A group of photographers from Norfolk Artists & Friends will be included in a photography show at Pinacoteca Gallery in Bantam, CT. These photographers are also collaborating on “Norfolk Through a Lens: Visions of a Quintessential New England Town,” a book to be released in the fall of this year. Participating in the show are: Jennifer Almquist, Mahlon Craft, Peter Coffeen, Bruce Frisch, Katherine Griswold, Anita Holmes, Jim Jasper, Christopher Little, Babs Perkins and Rick Schatzberg. Opening reception: April 15 from 4:00 —7:00 p.m.  The show, runs until May 1.

March 20, 2016: Peter Coffeen will be a guest photographer at Debra Lill's studio for the Whiting Mills Third Sunday event on March 20th, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a group photography event where Debra will be showing her new book cover photo illustrations along with the work of guest artists.

March 6, 2016: Tom Hlas received the Visitor's Selection Prize at the “MIXMASTER: Juried Members Exhibition” at The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT, for his painting, "Crossing Over."

March 6  - March 30, 2016: Norfolk Artists & Friends present a group art exhibit at The Norfolk Library in Norfolk, CT. The Opening Reception, sponsored by the Library Associates, is Sunday, March 6 from 4 - 6:00 p.m. The theme of the show is “Inspiration: Books."

January 23, 2016: Tom Hlas exhibits one of his large paintings at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT in a group show, “MIXMASTER: Juried Members Exhibition.” Opening reception is Saturday, January 23. November 28, 2015: A number of artists from Norfolk Artists & Friends are among the participating artists in a Holiday group show, "Local Vision,” at Aija located at 6 Station Place, Norfolk, CT. The participating artists are: Katherine Griswold, Tom Hlas, Fay O'Meara, Babs Perkins, Turi Rostad and Susan Rood. The opening reception is Saturday, November 28th from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

A HISTORIC DATE: 
Remarkable Historic Art Event Took Place at the Norfolk Country Club in 1935

In the mid-1700s, artists in London established a tradition of previewing their latest paintings by hosting a Varnishing Day to which they invited art patrons, dealers and fellow artists. On September 12,1935, in the depths of the Great Depression, the Norfolk Country Club hosted its own Varnishing Day followed by a largely forgotten four-day Norfolk and Neighborhood art show in the Clubhouse. For more information on the historic event, the exhibiting prominent artists and noted art patrons, see http://files.ctctcdn.com/5102668b001/093f14d4-bd5a-42f9-98b1-dde5e1eb0eaa.pdf

November 14, 2015: Mahlon Craft will exhibit his photographs in a show titled, “Secret Garden,” at Andrea S. Keogh Art & Design at 43 West Street, Litchfield, CT 06759. Rounding out the exhibition are flowers by Elizabeth Enders, Joni Scully, Roger Ricco and Robert Zakanitch. The opening reception is Saturday, November 14 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. The exhibit runs from November 14 - December 23, 2015.

November 5, 2015: Tom Hlas will exhibit 35 paintings in a solo show, “Landscapes of the Heart and Mind,” at The Oliver Wolcott Library in Litchfield, CT. The opening reception is Thursday, November 5 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. The show runs from November 3 to December 28, 2015. The Oliver Wolcott Library is located at 160 South Street, Litchfield, CT 06759.

October 4, 2015: Peter Coffeen will exhibit a photograph at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT, in a group show that features the winning pieces from “The Art of Experience”, which was the Connecticut's Senior Juried Art Show held at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury, Peter’s photograph won second place in the Photography division in the Pomperaug Woods show. All the winners in the all of the divisions of “The Art of Experience” show (including Photography, Painting, Drawing and Sculpture) will also be featured at the Mattatuck Museum. The opening reception is from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 4th. The Mattatuck Museaum is located at 144 W. Main Street in Waterbury.

September 13, 2015: Tom Hlas is exhibiting three paintings at The Gallery at Kent (Kent, CT) in a group show presented by members of The Kent Art Association. The show runs from September 13 to October 12, 2015. The artist reception is Saturday, September 19.

August 25, 2015: Peter Coffeen’s photograph, “Still Life~Eggs”, won second place in the photography division of “The Art of Experience”, the Connecticut Senior Juried Art Show at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury, CT. The exhibit will be open to the public September 25, 26 and 27 at Pomeraug Woods, 80 Heritage Road, Southbury CT. The winning works will be exhibited at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, beginning October 4th.

August 15, 2015:  Tom Hlas (Norfolk, CT), Christian Cesari (Woodbury, CT) and Jon Riedeman (Norfolk, CT) exhibit a collaborative drawing in a show called, “Exquisite," at LABspace Gallery in Hillsdale, NY. The show features collaborative drawings each made jointly by three artists working on the same sheet of paper.

August 5, 2015:  Printmaker, Susan Rood, is featured on the web site, 1000 Woodcuts. You can see examples of her woodcuts and wood blocks in the article.

July 31, 2015: Two photographs by Peter Coffeen have been selected for exhibition in: “The Art of Experience”, the 8th Annual Connecticut Senior Juried Show showcasing the talent of Connecticut artists age 70+ at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury. Exhibition dates are Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27, 2015.

July 24, 2015: A book of drawings and poems by Ron Sloan entitled, “A Fine Line,” was published by the New Arts Publishing Company.

July 22, 2015: Harvey Kimmelman's painting, "Down for the Count", was judged "Best in Show" at the Housatonic Valley Art League's Annual Juried Show and can be seen, with the rest of the show at the Searle's School Gym, on Bridge St., in Great Barrington until August 16.

July 8, 2015: John Thew and his work creating sculptural weathervanes is featured in BerkshireStyle: In and Around the Berkshires - An Online Resource.”

June 13, 2015: Eight members of Norfolk Artists & Friends will participate in an Open Studio Tour held in conjunction with “Connecticut Open House Day” which is sponsored by the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development. The participating artists are: Anita Holmes, John Thew, Nina Ritson, Ron Sloan, Ruthann Olsson, Susan Dorazio, Susan Rood and Tom Hlas.

April 2, 2015: John Thew made a custom scepter for the Yale School of Art. Sam Messer plans to carry it in the May Yale graduation as well as in future years. The scepter includes a number of elements. A hand represents the artist working and figures surrounding it represent the heart, brain and eye of creating. A cloud represents the source of ideas. The hand is hammered of copper, the symbols brass all mounted on a staff of black finished wood. A photo of the scepter can be seen on the “Members” page with John Thew’s listing.

May 1, 2015: Harvey Kimmelman will have a show of his "Italian Scenes and Others" watercolors, this coming May at the TD Bank, 271 Main St., in the center of Great Barrington, MA. The show will be on display from May 1 through May 31 and hours will be the same as the bank’s hours.

October 1, 2014: Tom Hlas and his art art are featured in the October issue of the web portal, "Happening in the Hills," which focuses on life and events in NW Connecticut.

August 22, 2014: Katherine Griswold, Nina Ritson and Tom Hlas are exhibiting at the 2014 Trinity Invitational Art Show at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lakeville, CT. The show runs from August 22 - September 1, 2014.

July 6, 2014: Debra Lill exhibits her work at the Infinity Gallery in Norfolk, CT. The opening reception is Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

June 6 - June 28, 2014: The Housatonic Valley Art League's annual Member's Show had its opening on June 6th, where Nina Ritson won "Best in Show" for her etching, "Behind the Barn". It was also sold during the opening reception.

Norfolk Artists & Friends' own, Harvey Kimmelman, took an "Honorable Mention" for his watercolor, "In the Garden of Villa Cipressi".

There are 114 paintings and artwork in this show, held at Jenifer House Commons, 420 Stockbridge Rd., Great Barrington, MA.. where several other NAF members are represented, including Wayne Jenkins and Karen Linden. The HVAL show runs through Saturday, June 28. 2014.

May 29, 2014Laura Lasker is taking part in the 21st Annual Alumni Art Exhibition at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, May 29 - June 1, 2014.

April 2, 2014Laura Lasker is showing her work in The New England Institute of Art's "3rd Annual Art Educators Appreciation Show" in Brookline, MA. The show runs from April 2 - April 30, 2014.

March 2, 2014Ron Sloan exhibits his paintings in a solo show, "I Paint," at the Norfolk Library. Opening reception is Sunday, March 2 from 4-6:00 p.m. The show runs through the month of March.

January 29, 2014: Tom Hlas is participating in the group show, "Thingamabob," at the Maritime Garage Gallery in Norwalk, CT. He has four large paintings in the show. The show runs from January 29 to April 25, 2014. The opening night artists' reception is Wednesday, January 29 from 5-7: p.m.

December 1, 2013: A number of members of Norfolk Artists & Friends have works included in the December Art Show at The Norfolk Library in Norfolk, CT. The group show, hosted by the Norfolk Library Associates, features small works and is titled, "Wee Works by Awesome Artists III: An Exhibition of Miniatures." The show runs through the month of December, 2013.
